Cleaning your tub drain

Lift and Twist Bathtub Drain Diagram

Step #1 To remove your drain for cleaning, close the drain - hold your thumb on the stopper to prevent it from turning and unscrew the knob counter clockwise. This is usually only hand tight but you might need pliers to hold the stopper and\or knob to turn it.

Step #2 Once the knob has been removed you will see a brass shaft or stem with a screw driver slot on top. Use a screw driver and unscrew the stem counter clockwise.

Step #3 Use a needle-nose-pliers to remove any clogged hair or soap scum from the drain.

Step #4 Re-assemble drain in and do not over tighten the shaft\stem screw and knob. Hand tight should be adequate for your drain.

*Note: Cleaning your drain is considered routine maintenance and should be performed on your drain assembly at least 2 to 3 times per year. Depending on the number of people using the bathtub you may need to do this more often. Standing or slow draining water will eventually start to cause more problems and costly repairs if not maintained properly.
